The Dudhkoshi Storage Hydroelectric Project (DKSHEP) in Nepal, with a planned capacity of 670 MW, is poised to significantly enhance the country’s energy production. However, its development entails notable environmental and social considerations. The construction of the dam and reservoir is expected to affect aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems, including the habitats of various flora and fauna. The project will impede fish migration, leading to a decline in fish populations. Additionally, the submergence of forested areas will result in the loss of biodiversity. The acquisition of around 30,000 hectares of land is required, raising concerns about adequate compensation and the restoration of livelihoods for the displaced communities.
