The Menta Dam, located at 1,400 m a.s.l. in the Aspromonte massif (Calabria region), provides drinking water to Reggio Calabria and supports hydroelectric power generation.
The structure, is located within the Aspromonte National Park, an area of great environmental importance. The Aspromonte National Park is renowned for its rich biodiversity, hosting a wide variety of plant and animal species, including endemic flora and fauna. Its diverse habitats range from dense forests to high-altitude meadows, providing refuge for species like such as wolf, peregrine falcons, and rare orchids. The park’s unique ecological value underscores the importance of balancing infrastructure development with conservation efforts.
