Mudi Dam and its associated water treatment facilities represent a crucial component of Blantyre’s water supply system. However, the dam and water treatment plant have deteriorated significantly since teir construction in the 1950s. Mudi Dam is a zoned earth embankment dam, 15 m hight, with a gated spillway on the left bank. Reservoir capacity is 1.5 milion m3. Catchment area is 8.9 Km2.
